SPECIAL THANKS. I would like to thank Paul Watson for his sponsorship of several lead figure collections on this blog. Having decided to clear his spare/surplus figures, he generously forwarded them on with no other requirement than they deserved to be restored. I would also like to mention George S. Mills, who kindly furnished a quantity of plastic figures which greatly enhanced several collections.

NEW YORK ARTILLERY c.1880

The National Guard formed in New York had their own light (horse) artillery and gatling gun batteries. Could not resist raising some units for the wargames table. Here is the 1st Artillery, and the 3rd Gatling. All the figures are converted plastic household cavalry. The cannon is something I put together from my spares box and is based on an American 1875 mountain gun, while the gatling is actually a metal pencil sharpener (can't claim to be the first to use the latter, Timothy Hall has them in his fine collection.)

  1. Both guns are excellent in their own ways. Pencil sharpeners of this type are so full of potential.. Great conversions once more.
