SPECIAL THANKS. I would like to thank Paul Watson for his sponsorship of several lead figure collections on this blog. Having decided to clear his spare/surplus figures, he generously forwarded them on with no other requirement than they deserved to be restored. I would also like to mention George S. Mills, who kindly furnished a quantity of plastic figures which allowed me to complete another five or six military units, serving in several collections.

GERMAN ARTILLERYMEN & HOME-MADE MORTAR

Have been working on some Airfix WW2 Germans, constructing suitable crews for two PAK 38 anti-tank guns, and for an 8cm Mortar. The latter is home-made using plastic and metal bits, and some brass nails. Far from perfect, its got enough detail to look interesting, so I will use it.

  1. The two PAK 38's look great, I especially like the cammo painted one! The crews really bring the pieces alive and will be perfect in your games! The mortar and crew are excellent and will be very useful! What did you use for the mortar tube? It looks exactly right! Another wonderful job Michael, well done indeed!

    1. Hi Brad, the tube is also a plastic-card product. The other mortar, for my Dutch, is a lead relic from a badly damaged cannon.

    1. Thanks George, its always a morale boost to complete a project, using a minimum of expense, and ending up with something you know will be useful on the wargames table. And I enjoy the nostalgia of making my own 'toys'.
