My Japanese army has just gained some new recruits. First up is a Navy gun crew. Here they are manning a TYPE 50 Coastal Gun. The officer figure is a converted guardsman, and based on a scene in the film Midway.
Another five Japanese infantry in their white fatigue uniform. Just got the officer to finish, to complete a battalion of twelve.
Finally. A firing section (company) of Japanese allies. These are converted British figures, portraying Giyugun (Malayan) Volunteers. They were supplied with captured British equipment.
That is very interesting about the Malays.
ReplyDeleteIt adds interest to the collection to have some auxiliary troops. Most of these 'allies' served as armed police. I'm not sure the Japanese really trusted anyone. The impression I get is most of the Asiatic peoples that were part of the British Empire wanted independence, but would have favoured a peaceful transfer of power, and probably maintained some friendly ties, rather than a military alliance with the Japanese. (It does look a bit different concerning the Dutch and French empires.) An exception is possibly, India. I think a sizeable minority(?) would have aided the Japanese if they invaded.. Although the Indian Empire regiments stayed overwhelmingly loyal during the actual war with Japan. The Springing Tigers are more popular in India now than they ever were during WW2. Its just my opinion, for what its worth.

That coastal gun and crew is awesome Michael! I did notice the train tracks in your pictures, can we look forward to seeing your armoured train in the near future?
ReplyDeleteHi Brad. working on clearing some odd figures in my spares box into Chinese. Will then stage a game involving the Japanese. Yes, the armoured train gun would be an appropriatel addition, so very likely.
