I recently sold 65% of my Saracen 28mm collection. Those remaining will serve as Arab auxiliaries and Corsair pirates with my Ottoman army. More importantly, its paid for many of the 54mm scale figures purchased this year. Today a parcel of old lead figures arrived, not the cheapest, but I am excited to have a go at repairing and integrating them. There is some variation in their height but I'm thinking the smaller will serve rather well as 'cadets'. I have several splendid cadet uniforms on file and would like to have them represented in the collection. Including delivery they cost £11.10.

An excellent purchase. I look forward to seeing who they become...
ReplyDeleteHi Allan, just received another box, will upload shortly with a photo.

Good haul and good to know that your Saracens will fight on elsewhere under a new general, funding your new 54mm Armies. I am intrigued by the Militia type cigarette cards (ones that John The Wargames Hermit has been sharing?) alongside your new haul of figures - are these clues as to what they will become?
ReplyDeleteI too am curious about the 50mm to 54mm size gaps and differences in build or stature amongst lead figures. As you say, perfect for a cadet force ...
Yes Mark, its quite possible the smaller castings will form a Massachusetts cadet unit as I already have a spare flag for that state too, and I quite like the idea of my US army having a white-coated unit. All my Ruritanian infantry are also 50-52mm scale, so I could have drafted them into that collection, but I like the white uniform. Just got another delivery, will post a photo, very mixed collection.

Interesting looking bunch of recruits!
ReplyDeleteHi MJT, have just paint stripped them and started to clean them up, remove flash, repair the rifles. But another box has just arrived, will post a photo, this one is very mixed.
