Have mentioned before how Paul Watson sponsored my move into 54mm metal figures. In clearing more of his spares, he has just donated another very large box of castings. His only request being, as before, they deserved to be restored. Paul was actually visiting my home town, to see an old friend who is not doing very well, and was keen to see him one more time. So it also provided an opportunity to deliver the above mentioned box.
As discussed with Paul, I feel its only right that I should send a donation to a worthy cause. He has approved of this action, refusing to take anything for himself. In fact, I've decided to give to both a Cancer charity, and also a company that supports Free Speech.
For the record, here are photos of the new arrivals. Lots of projects here, looking forward to starting on the restoration work.
PHOTO ONE, WW2, new castings, hard metal, don't know much about these but they are marked HONG KONG and vary in scale from 48 to 55mm. Some nice clean castings.
PHOTO TWO, mainly WW1 and colonials, lead.
Oh ! good haul there with lots of posabilities !
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what comes out of them. Mr. B NEVER disappoints :)
DeleteMerry Christmas Svjek :)
Cheers Tony, my mind is racing with ideas and methods to utilise these figures. This can't be rushed, pen to paper and careful consideration will hopefully see firm restorations and useful additions. Its also the bit I enjoy lol.

More in the new year my friend - there's got to be a massive clear-out. I'm under orders. Besides there's a books and antique shop we drove past today that I want to check out. Take care, great Christmas. Glad the table was in the Britains box. Should have said the blue 4.7 inch gun is lead and will solder together really well. They all work :) Should have brought you some broken ones down as well - I've seen what you can do with an orphaned barrel etc Hope you Have a fantastic Christmas and New Year :)
ReplyDeletePaul, I'm starting today on sorting out scale, etc,. In the past I've occasionally painted units which would have been better utilised elsewhere, sometime leading to paint striping and starting again. Now, it has to be carefully planned. Keep us posted on your plans through the usual channel, lets hope movement and socialising become more normal during 2022. God be with you and your family, I requested the same for your pal last night.

I really look forward to seeing what you do with these…
ReplyDeleteThank you Alan, have already made some decisions concerning the hard metal WW2, they will provide the missing staff officers in my German WW2 collection, and there is also a four figure detachment of Kriegsmarine, in blue uniforms. What is exciting is the number of potential auxiliary formations and personalities, which make a game and photo look all the more interesting.

Loads of good stuff there, particularly all those Naval Guns!
ReplyDeleteHi MJT, just at this moment, cleaning forty figures which have been paint stripped. These were all in a bad way needing restoration work, will then start repairing limbs and replacing weapons. Yes, that is a lot of naval guns, the paintwork on many of these is still quite good, will just cover the scratches and flaking. But will first given them a good clean, possibly with white spirits.

You are going to be a very busy man Michael! All the vast possibilities that await you. I'm sure your careful planning will result in some wonderful new recruits that will enhance your future battles! Such generosity from Paul is quite rare, but he knows that brilliant figures will emerge in the end!
ReplyDeleteHi Brad, been working on the figures during the last few days. Uncannily, many of the WW2 figures were exactly what I needed to complete other units, in particular the officers. The others will also furnish extras that make the gaming table interesting. For example auxiliary units with distinct morale ratings, or skills. Yes, Paul is a generous fellow. Despite very different backgrounds, we both have been energetic in our hobbies, including staging history displays for institutions, museums, etc., and now our Christian faith.
